Critters

We're seeing quite a bit of wildlife at our cabin.  The first day we saw a chipmunk but it was too fast to capture on film.

The next morning everyone but me (still in my 'apartment') saw 3 deer about 100 feet from the front door.

Jennifer scared them away by making a 'chking' noise like you call a dog.  Obviously deer don't come running like dogs.  Instead they ran away.

Later that day, I saw another chipmunk.  Again too fast to take a picture.  I'm going to get one yet!

On Monday afternoon, Elizabeth was on the bottom deck having some 'private' time (which is important to teenagers!) and ran upstairs to tell us she saw an armadillo in our back yard.  NONE of us believed her.  Did she even know what an armadillo looked like?  Why would an armadillo be in 60 degree Missouri weather, and in Missouri at all?  We silently went down to the bottom level with the camera.  She was right!  Here's the proof.

He (or was it a she?) was so cute.  His ears were especially adorable.  We were within mere inches of him and he just looked at us.  He did hide under a rock overhang off and on but didn't seem to be too bothered by us. I got to see him flexing his back shell where the ripples are.
